Only True Dragon Ball Fans Will Find Funny
Time to take part in the time-honored tradition of the Dragon Ball meme. The Dragon Ball franchise has a long history of having the fans lampoon the shows and its logic ever since Dragon Ball Z became popular. From simple observations to turning the characters into caricatures of themselves, the fans are always willing to lovingly make fun of the show.
So it is no surprise that the same thing happened with Dragon Ball Super. After nearly twenty years of absence, fans were eager to devour the show and then digest any of the memes that came from it. Here are some of the best.
10 Animation Changes
Let's get this out of the way. While there were some great animated sequences in Dragon Ball Super, there were plenty of times that the artist seemed to have phoned it in. Which is quite apparent to the nostalgic fans of the animation in previous iterations.
Usually taking place in scenes where the characters were far away or during in-between frames, Dragon Ball Super had its share of badly drawn moments. It sometimes leads to fans turning to Dragon Ball Z as an example of better animation. Even if that belief is entirelymistaken.
9 Persistent Vegeta
Vegeta may be stuck as second banana when compared to Goku in the Dragon Ball Universe but that isn't because of lack of trying. If anything, he may even try too hard to surpass Goku as the strongest Saiyan (and possibly entity) in the universe.
But Kami bless him for trying. He may ever be stuck a day late and a dollar short when compared to Goku, but the amount of dedication he shows to training to surpass his rival is admirable. Even if it means getting his keister kicked over and over again throughout the series.
8 Puny God
If the characters of Dragon Ball were to be compared to members of the Marvel's Avengers, there is no doubt that Broly would be the Hulk. Not only are they similar in stature but their power is often referred to as the strongest there is.
They've even both manhandled supposed gods. There is no doubt in our mind that if Goku and Vegeta were flung into a similar situation like Tony Stark was in the first Avenger's movie, they could confidently say, "We have a Broly.", at whatever may threaten the Earth.
7 Yamcha Never Changes
The animation, the stories, and the other character may change, but Yamcha... Yamcha never changes. Even after all these years, he is still the butt of the jokes in theDragon Ball fandom. He may have been a threat in the early parts of the story but he eventually teetered out into a walking and talking joke once the power levels surpassed him.
It is something that the people behind Dragon Ball Super seem to be entirely aware of. To the point where they gave us this gem during the baseball episode of the anime. Even in a sport that he apparently excels at, Yamcha can't help but fall into old habits.
6 Future Trunks Arc
This Tom and Jerry meme has recently shown up in a lot of places on the internet. Usually applied to situations where a character gets other characters to go and fix a problem for them. Whether it be taking care of a nuisance or fighting Goku Black.
It does not quite get the entirety of the plot correct, but it is not wrong either. After all of the destruction Goku Black caused in Trunk's timeline, he did essentially travel to Goku and Vegeta's timeline to then get them to fight Goku Black for him.
5 Anime Angles
This is not so much something that exclusively happens in Dragon Ball Super as it is something that happens in anime in general. The camera in anime seems to always linger on a girl's assets at least once or twice during a shows run.
Dragon Ball is no stranger to this trope either. Ever since the Bulma picked up a wild boy named Goku after accidentally running into him with her car, she has been a subject of fanservice for the series. The show eventually expanding its lecherous gaze to other characters like Andriod 18 and eventually Cheelai in the latest movie.
4 Ctrl Alt Delete
This is essentially what Gods of Destruction do throughout the universe. They pause a process and then delete it entirely from the universe. One of the best examples occurring in the Future Trunks Arc of Dragon Ball Super when Beerus confront Zamasu.
Upon figuring out Zamasu's treacherous plan, he immediately stopped the Zamasu.exe process from completing its task and then deleted it entirely from the directory of the universe. Which is essentially a bit of godly troubleshooting on the universal scale, considering the carnage that Zamasu wrought on Future Trunk's timeline.
3 Sonic Heroes
It is kinda uncanny really. Some of Universe 9's fighters sure do resemble the iconic trio of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles from Sonic the Hedgehog. Unfortunately for them, they seemed to be based on the recent games rather than the timeless originals.
They never really got a break in any of their appearances. They lost the first tournament they were in and were the first universe erased during the tournament of power in both the anime and manga versions of the story. "Gotta go fast!" might be Sonic's catchphrase, but being the first erased universe in the Tournament of Power is a bit too fast for anyone's liking.
2 Ultra Instinct
As always, Dragon Ball is Goku's eternal search for the next level of power, and with that next level comes a new form that puts all the others to shame. This time around it is Goku's Ultra Instinct that wows us in the Tournament of Power.
Ultra instinct is described as a technique that allows a martial artist's body to fight autonomously from their mind. Their body essentially reacting before they have even processed an attack. Whether it be their attack or the attack of their opponent. Here the meme makes fun of that fact but attributing mere coincidence to Ultra Instinct.
1 And This Is To Go Even Further Beyond
This is a meme. And this... this is what is known as a meme that is ascended past a meme or we can just call it an ascended meme. And this is to go even further beyond!
The official Twitter of the Scoob! movie has gathered all seven Dragon Balls and resurrected the long-dead Ultra Instinct Shaggy meme. A meme that originally played tribute to Ultra Instinct Goku by playing Dragon Ball Super music over a scene that has Shaggy fighting a biker gang. That video gaining traction and eventually spawning fanart and other memes. It finally going around full circle to have the official twitter page of the new Scooby-Doo movie acknowledge it in a recent post.
